Places to visit

Beaches - Rossbeigh beach, the finest beach in the area, consist of 6km of glorious sand and dunes. There is a restaurant close to the beach and a new chilrens play area. It is just 5 minutes drive from Glenbeigh. There is also a good beach at the back of dooks golf course. Take the road to Dooks Golf Club. This is just outside Glenbeigh by the river Caragh bridge, about 150mts before the entrance to Dooks Golf Club turn left.

Puck Fair - Always held in August, it is one of Ireland's oldest festivals. It lasts for 3 days and starts with the crowning of King Puck, a wild mountain goat. Visitors can enjoy day and night concerts, traditional music sessions, dancers, parades, storytelling, family entertainment, haggling with street traders, fireworks and, of course, the cattle and horse fair.

Glenbeigh Festival & Races - Held annually early in September. The horse racing is staged on Rossbeigh beach, time depending on the tides. The festival opens with the inauguration of the festival queen. Activities are available for the whole family and include Frocker Soccer (guys dressed up as ladies playing a five a side game of soccer), Fancy Dress, Terrier dog racing, Drag Race, Bouncy Castles, Kids Go-Karting, Face Painting, on stage live bands, traditional music sessions in the local pubs and, at the races, Best Dressed Lady and Gentleman Award.

The World Bodhrán Championships - Milltown hosts this exciting event annually, a 4 day extravaganza of music sessions, concerts and workshops, which takes place over the June Bank Holiday. The Bodhrán, an Irish frame drum, is made with a wooden body and a goat-skin head, and played with a double-headed stick. It can be heard as the heart beat of many Irish music sessions.

Kerry Bog Village Museum - Step back in time to an early 18th century thatched village. Visit the old blacksmith's forge, the turf cutters house, stable dwelling and dairy house, Denny's hen house, the labourer's cottage and the thatchers dwelling. The Museum is wheelchair accessible and facilities include a gift shop, large car park area, children's play area and a chance to see the extremely rare Kerry Bog Ponies.

Basement Museum, Killorglin - an exhibition of legends and lore and historical tradition in old photographs and in print. Also articles from the past such as the first triclour flown in Killorglin.
